แตงโม

                             แตงโม เป็นผลไม้ที่มีน้ำประกอบอยู่เป็นจำนวนมาก ภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือเรียก บักโม ภาคเหนือเรียก บะเต้า จังหวัดตรังเรียกแตงจีน ถิ่นกำเนิดอยู่ในทะเลทรายคาลาฮารีทวีปแอฟริกา ชาวอียิปต์เป็นชาติแรกที่ปลูกแตงโมไว้รับประทานเมื่อสี่พันปีมาแล้วชาวจีนเริ่มปลูกแตงโมที่ซินเกียงสมัยราชวงศ์ถัง และชาวมัวร์ได้นำแตงโมไปสู่ทวีปยุโรป แตงโมแพร่หลายเข้าสู่ทวีปอเมริกาพร้อมกับชาวแอฟริกาที่ถูกขายเป็นทาส แตงโมต้องการดินที่มีความชุ่มชื้นพอเหมาะ น้ำไม่ขัง มักปลูกกันในดินร่วนปนทราย ในประเทศไทยมีการปลูกแตงโมทั่วทุกภูมิภาค และปลูกได้ทุกฤดู
