แตงกวา เป็นไม้เลื้อยในวงศ์ Cucurbitaceae(ตระกูลเดียวกันกับแตงโม ฟักทอง บวบ มะระ น้ำเต้า) นิยมปลูกเพื่อใช้ผลเป็นอาหาร มีอายุตั้งแต่ปลูกจนถึงเก็บเกี่ยว 30-45 วัน แตงกวาสามารถนำไปปรุงอาหารได้มากมายหลายชนิดเช่น แกงจืด ผัด กินกับน้ำพริก หรืออาจแปรรูปเป็นแตงกวาดอง
